Reading is very important.  It builds vocabulary, spelling, and writing skills.  Not to mention that you can learn about different places and periods in time.

Students should read all genres of books. Mysteries, fantasy, adventure, and nonfiction. Plays, magazines, and newspapers are other good sources for reading.

You can read to your child or discuss a book that they have just read.  Have your child tell you a favorite part or character.  They may want to illustrate their favorite part or create a comic strip to illustrate the plot of the story.
