The sixth grade English class focuses on  both grammar and writing skills.  We begin our day by  copying down our targeted DOL sentences. Students learn the proper proofing marks and how to take notes during this exercise.  Added practice in other targeted vocabulary and reading areas are provided as well. The class takes a quiz on Friday over the lessons taught during the week.  Each week a student is chosen to be our student leader for the DOL.

Using our adopted text, we spend at least two days a week on studying a targeted skill in English grammar.  Then the students use what they have learned in their creative writing. We will be writing samples of

persuasive, expository, technical, and

narrative text. Students will use rubrics to help

evaluate their papers and will keep track of how

well they are doing by reflecting on their progress.
